Drew's first day of Kinder

Drew's first day of Kindergarten was a big hit! He woke up extremely excited and couldn't wait to get to school and see his classroom with all of the kids! When we got to school Grammy was waiting there for us and she got to be part of this joyous milestone. She was a little teary and I think that this was a blessing in disguise because I felt that I had to be strong. I didn't let the tears roll until lunchtime when I saw my little guy eating lunch with all of the kindergartners. You see, Drew is a REALLY slow eater and I have been working on this with him all summer. We talk about eating our lunch at school quickly so we get enough energy for the rest of the day. I was afraid that he would not get enough food before time was up. So as I went to check on him 5 minutes into lunch and I was extremely surprised to see he was the only one not eating. I asked him where his lunch was and he was so proud to tell me that he had eaten it all up! He literally shoveled it in and was done eating everything. I guess all of that practice and those conversations really worked! I giggled to myself and then told him he didn't have to eat that fast.....This is one of the reasons that I am so glad we made the decision to bring Drew to school with me. I am so thankful that I get to witness these little things throughout the day and that he is safe and happy with my good friend Sara as his teacher. Having my baby in school is so bittersweet for me, at least I can see him at recess, eating lunch, walking down the hall, in assemblies, and oh ya, walking into my class of 4th graders during writing to announce very loudly he has to go potty! This in itself is saved for another post.......
